Conscious of the gravity of the problem described on our page of beginning and of the need to articulate united responses from the civil society, is born AVASI, the Association of Help to the Victims of Sexual Abuses in the Infancy.

AVASI is constituted in Bilbao as an non-profit association that works at the enviroment of the Basque Autonomous region with a double target. First of all, to give response to the scarcity of existing resources for the reception, the support and the treatment to the persons who have suffered sexual abuses in the infancy in the Basque Country and who live marked by the aftermath of that traumatic experience. The affiliation tries to give voice to the victims and to facilitate to them the necessary help to overcome fears, faults and shames and to adquire the precise skills to develop a normal life. For it, the affiliation has diverse services between which we emphasize the psychological support to the victims and to his environment, groups of mutual help and juridical consultancy.

The second target consists of waking up the social consciusness of a drama that affects thousands of persons and his families, trying to look for the complicity of the institutions and the population in Basque Country for the resolution of the individual and social problems that it generates. Equally, AVASI will denounce the factors and the social conditions that allow the existence of the sexual abuses in the infancy and of its consequences in the adult age.
